Tim Crossley
Tim grew up in South Manchester but moved to Backwell in September 2021 to train as a Baptist Minister at Backwell Baptist Church and study at Bristol Baptist College.
He is a big Manchester City fan (but don’t let that put you off!). Tim also likes to get stuck into a game of football or to be out in the hills mountain biking.
Tim became a Christian when he was eleven years old and his biggest passion is preaching and teaching God’s word.
Dawn Jefferies
After attending Backwell Baptist with her Mum, Dad and older sister, Dawn went through Sunday school, Covenanters and Holiday club.When she was old enough, Dawn helped at Holiday club, (which later she helped to run), and took a class in the Sunday school.
Dawn was baptised as a teenager and is now married, with two daughters.
Dawn is a hairdresser, pre-school practitioner and looks after the Church by making sure it’s clean and tidy. In any spare time she has, she likes to create with craft – sewing, cross stitch or bead craft.
Alan Lewis
Born in South Wales, Alan joined NatWest Bank in 1958 and moved to Hampshire in 1968 following a transfer to London by his employers. After a number of years working in London he was transferred again, this time to Chicago, with his wife and two sons.
On his return to the UK Alan was fortunate enough to go on short visits to New York, Toronto, Bahrain and Hong Kong, before finally moving to Bristol for the final ten years of his working life.
Alan and his wife have been members at Backwell Baptist since 2000 and Alan became a Deacon in 2019.
Ruth Ham
Ruth has attended Backwell Baptist all her life, following in the footsteps of her parents and grandmothers. She became a Christian in her teens and fondly remembers being baptised with her childhood best friend.
She has taught in the Sunday School and Youth Group before joining the Leadership Team as Treasurer. Ruth trained as a Secondary School Maths teacher and continues this role as a tutor.
Outside of Church, she enjoys swimming, making cards and spending time with her family.
Dave Nicklen
Dave became a Christian while studying at Loughborough University.
He works in a back-office role for the NHS, but of an evening can be found rehearsing at the Backwell Playhouse, dancing in a Ceilidh club, or learning Lindy hop and Swing-Dancing at the WI Hall.
He enjoys playing the guitar and plays as part of the band for our Sunday meetings.
Sheila Whiting
Shelia was born in Shetland, where she attended Sunday school with her siblings. She moved to Backwell in 1978 and made a commitment of faith after attended Backwell Baptist Church. Shelia was baptised in 1999.
In her spare time, Shelia enjoys gardening and reading, and you will often find her at bingo on a Friday night!
Shelia became a Deacon in July 2022 and loves to be a friendly face and welcome visitors.
